Snack Smart, Study Hard: Back-to-School Protein Power Balls with Manuka Honey

As the school year kicks back into gear, it’s not just the backpacks and supplies that need restocking, snack time deserves some love too. Whether you're packing lunches, fueling up between classes, or looking for something to tie the kids over between school and after-school activities, smart snacking is key.

That’s where these protein balls made with BeeNZ honey come in. They’re quick to prep, packed with clean, nourishing ingredients, and loved by kids and adults alike. No mystery ingredients, no sugar crashes. Just a naturally sweet, satisfying bite that keeps energy levels steady and brains focused.

Why BeeNZ Honey?

BeeNZ honey isn’t just for sweetening, it brings natural antibacterial and anti-inflamatory properties and a boost of antioxidants to every bite. Mānuka and Kānuka honeys are especially potent, offering added wellness benefits like immune support and gentle digestion help. It's the kind of ingredient you feel good about giving to your family because it does more than just taste good.

The back-to-school snack you’ll actually feel good about

Let’s be honest: finding snacks that check all the boxes.. nutritious, tasty, and easy to make is no small feat. These protein balls do it all. They’re naturally sweetened with honey (so no need for refined sugar), and you can customize them with your favorite mix-ins like oats, nut butter, seeds, or dried fruit.

They're:

  • No-bake and easy to prep in minutes

  • Freezer-friendly for grab-and-go convenience

  • Balanced with healthy fats, protein, and fibre

  • Kid-approved (and adult-loved, too)

Ingredients:

  • 1 cup gluten free rolled oats

  • ½ cup nut butter (peanut, almond, or sunflower seed)

  • 2–3 tablespoons BeeNZ honey (Mānuka or Kānuka)

  • ¼ cup ground flaxseed

  • ¼ cup chia seeds

  • ¼ cup cocount shavings

  • ¼ cup raisins or cranberries

  • ¼ cup mini chocolate chips

  • Pinch of Himalayen sea salt

  • Optional: 1–2 tablespoons protein powder for an extra boost

Directions:

  1. Mix all ingredients in a bowl until well combined.

  2. Roll into bite-sized balls (about 1 inch in diameter).

  3. Chill in the fridge for 20–30 minutes, or freeze for longer storage.

Make it your own

One of the best things about these protein balls is how easy they are to customize. Swap in different nut butters, use coconut flakes or hemp seeds, or add spices like cinnamon or cocoa powder. The options are endless and a fun way to get kids involved in the kitchen, too.
